Our 3rd Annual Hair Massacure on Saturday, February 11th, 2012 was a HUGE success. Thank you so much to everyone who came out and supported us in any way. Our event would not have been as successful as it was without our amazing participants and the generosity of the Kingston community. We had over 70 participants go bald, cut 8-10 inches of hair, or colour their hair, and altogether we raised over $30,000 from this event alone, surpassing our original Hair Massacure fundraising goal of $25,000!!!
Special thanks to Emma, Nicholas, Amber, and Lucas (all of whom we have granted a wish to this past year), along with their families for visiting us at the event and showing their support. We would also like to recognize and congratulate our top fundraisers, Craig McHattie-Christensen and Brittany McLellan, both of whom raised over $3,000!
We are so excited to announce that we have already exceeded our year-end fundraising goal of $35,000, which means that we will be able to grant at least 5 wishes to children living with life-threatening medical conditions in Kingston.
As always, we can’t thank you enough for your continued support, and for helping us to Share the Power of a Wish®!

Lucas is a four year old boy so full of energy and enthusiasm that it’s hard to tell he suffers from acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He has been doing well with his chemotherapy treatment sessions, and was able to go to Disney World with his mom and dad to meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Looks like they all had a well-deserved, enjoyable time!

Shane was six years old and was a severe haemophiliac who absolutely loved Toy Story. His greatest wish was to meet Buzz Lightyear, so in March 2011, he travelled to Disney World with his three older sisters and parents and had a terrific time!

Emma, a sweet four-year old girl, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Her greatest wish was to travel to Disney World with her sister and parents and be a princess! In March 2011, her wish came true and she got to be a princess at Disney World for a whole week!

Nicholas was twelve years old when he had his wish granted. He suffers from a severe form of neurofibromatosis, which is a tumour disorder treated with chemotherapy and is incurable. At first, when offered to have a wish granted, he almost turned down the opportunity, insisting that there were other children out there more deserving than he was. Even when he finally decided on a wish, he thought of family over himself. All he wanted was a bigger TV to watch movies on with his two siblings and his parents during Family Night. In October 2010, Nicholas was granted a private shopping spree at Future Shop with his family and friends. He went home with much more than a bigger television, and it was an amazing experience for everyone!

Sweet little Amber was three years old when she had her wish granted. She suffers from cerebral palsy, blindess, and a seizure disorder amongst many other metabolic conditions. For her wish, she travelled with her two older brothers and parents to British Columbia to meet her father’s extended family for the first time. The trip was an incredible experience for Amber and her siblings as they had never travelled before, and full of great memories to take home with them!

Over the past three years, we have raised over $40,000 and have granted 5 wishes. This year our goal is to raise $35,000 by May, 2012!
